About SDA

OUR ORGANIZATION

Service Dogs Alabama improves lives by training and placing highly skilled service and facility dogs that create real, measurable change for individuals and communities.

Founded in 2010 and established as an independent nonprofit in 2015, Service Dogs Alabama has grown into a trusted provider of service dogs for individuals—including veterans—living with visible and non-visible disabilities, as well as facility dogs that support schools, healthcare providers, courts, and community organizations.

Our work is guided by three core initiatives:

Create Great Dogs
We develop dogs with purpose—from the very beginning. Through a responsible, in-house breeding program and a structured, high-standard training process, we maintain a consistent pipeline of more than 50 dogs in training at any given time. The result is reliable, capable dogs prepared to perform in real-world environments.

Find Great People
Successful placements start with the right match. We work closely with individuals, families, and partner organizations to identify where a service or facility dog will make a meaningful difference—and ensure each placement is thoughtful, appropriate, and built for long-term success.

Create Great Teams
A well-trained dog is only part of the equation. We develop reliable partnerships between dogs and the people they serve, supported by dedicated volunteers and our teammates at Gadsden Correctional Facility who play a hands-on role in raising and training each dog. Every placement represents a team working together to achieve greater independence, confidence, and stability.

Service Dogs Alabama focuses on doing the work well—breeding and training exceptional dogs, making the right matches, and delivering outcomes that matter.
